How to Prove My Art Is Mine, Not AI
To prove a work is yours and human-made, you need the process — not the final file. Keep the layers, the sketches, the screen recording, and the edit history. These are things a generated image doesn't have. Add a dated authorship declaration and you have a traceable trail rather than a bare claim.
Why the final file proves nothing
A finished PNG or JPEG looks the same whether it was drawn by hand or generated in seconds. Metadata gets stripped. So the question isn't "what does the result look like" but "can you show how it got there." Human creation leaves a trail. Generation doesn't.
What evidence actually works
- Layers and working files. A PSD, Procreate, or Clip Studio file with its layer structure intact. A generated image is flat.
- A timelapse of the process. Procreate and most programs record this automatically. It's the strongest evidence that exists.
- Sketches and intermediate versions. The initial composition, the rejected variants, the corrections.
- Edit history. Undo stack, cloud versions, autosaves.
- A dated authorship declaration. Fixes when you stated the work is yours.
